“There is something about the outside of a horse that is good for the inside of a man” – Winston Churchill

Contemporary clinical research shows that close proximity to horses changes human brain wave patterns suggesting that humans can be transformed in a very positive way when in the presence of horses. It has also been revealed in studies conducted by HeartMath that horses have extremely strong heart rhythms which have the capacity to affect our own heart rhythms, similar to a magnetic force, which help relax and calm us when in their presence. Equine Assisted Therapy in its many forms is gaining huge popularity and acclaim as a transformational and healing modality around the world, and more recently in Australia. People have known for many centuries that horses have a special capacity to heal, relax and promote happiness within us, but only now are we starting to really tap into, and understand that power.

The fact that horses are prey animals means they are highly sensitive to behaviour and body language and have also evolved to become highly attuned to human emotions and responses through centuries of co-habitation with us. Studies are now discovering that horses can actually recognise different human facial expressions depicting things like anger, happiness and sadness which shows a level of evolutionary intelligence and understanding far greater than we have previously recognised.  What this means is that we have a very intelligent and intuitive being who picks up on our inner and outer world perfectly and responds by mirroring ourselves back to us in a non-judgemental, non-biased and non-invasive way.
